VOLKSWAGEN GEN.TRAVEL
Looking towards autonomous mobility
Translated by: Javier Álvarez

Depending on your definition of a car, it is possible that the Volkswagen Gen.Travel does not fit into this category, mainly due to the absence of a steering wheel. That prototype is not one of those that uses a retractable steering wheel, it has not steering wheel.
As you can see, it is a design exercise in which the German giant from Wolfsburg intends to set its sights on the future of mobility, and specifically on vehicles capable of driving themselves, that is, with a driving level 5. autonomous.
VOLKSWAGEN, THE GEN.TRAVEL
According to Volkswagen, the Gen.Travel mixes features of a sedan and a minivan, and sports a very curious design, with shapes that are unusual in the automotive world. For example, its large gull-wing doors or the absence of a central pillar stand out.
Conceived as a car for mobility services, rather than for private users, the brand calls it an “Innovation Experience Vehicle” and is intended as an alternative to short plane flights, so we assume that its batteries (it is electric) should have enough autonomy to reach most of this journeys.

Capable of driving themselves, with a level 5 of autonomous driving.

The primary objective of the concept is to offer the maximum possible comfort to its passengers, thanks to an active suspension (eABC or electric Active Body Control) that anticipates cornering or braking to optimize driving style and trajectory.
With the help of artificial intelligence, Volkswagen envisions a future in which caravans of autonomous vehicles, moving together, will be possible. Something that will also help maximize efficiency and, therefore, range.
