SCALA2 preload pressure
Discover and remember the annual preload pressure check

Source: Grundfos.com
Have you ever noticed the yellow sticker on your SCALA2 unit? Its purpose is to help you keep your system in optimal condition, indicating that you should check the pre-charge pressure of the pressure tank upon installation and then once a year.
This maintenance ensures the proper functioning of your SCALA2.
Problems you can avoid with an annual check-up:
Annoying noises and pressure fluctuations in the tap:
These can occur due to changes in motor speed, especially if the pressure is not adjusted correctly.Risk of damage to system components:
Water hammer, caused by inadequate pressure, can generate recurring stresses in connected appliances, increasing the risk of breakdowns.Increased noise level:
A poorly adjusted system can accumulate air in the hydraulic circuit, causing irregular pump operation and, with it, an increase in motor speed.Increased energy consumption:
Incorrect pressure generates an excessive number of starts and stops, which increases energy use and can raise electricity bills.
How do you check the preload pressure on your SCALA2?
This video explains in detail how to install and maintain the SCALA2 pump to ensure optimal performance. Here are the key steps covered:
- How do you check the preload pressure on your SCALA2?
- Check the Quick Guide: It is recommended to review the Quick Guide included with the product for installation details and specific configurations.
- Site Preparation: Mark and drill holes in the chosen location for the pump. Insert anchors and use a mat to reduce noise during operation.
2. Pump installation
- Pump Mounting: Place the pump on the mat and secure it to the floor with the screws.
- Hose Connection:
– Remove the pump connectors and connect the flexible hoses to the connectors and then to the pipes.
– If the water contains particles, install an inlet filter to prevent clogging. - System Priming:
– Remove the priming cap, fill the pump with 1.7 liters of water and replace the cap. - Valve Opening: Open the shut-off valves and close the bypass valve to allow flow through the pump.
3. Adjustment and configuration
- Power on and pressure setting:
– Turn on the pump and adjust the pressure using the arrows on the control panel. Open the farthest tap to check the desired pressure.
– The SCALA2 includes an internal pressure tank, which simplifies installation. This tank should be charged to 70% of the pressure setting value when installed.
4. Annual maintenance
To maintain performance, perform an annual check of the tank pre-charge pressure. The procedure is:
- Stop and depressurize: Turn off the SCALA2, close the supply pipe and open the tap.
- Pressure adjustment:
– Use an inflator to charge the tank to the appropriate pressure (70% of the set value).
– Reinstall and tighten the valve cap to prevent air leakage. - System restart: Open the supply valve and turn on the SCALA2.
