Install an air conditioner step by step
Material required for installation
When buying a new air conditioner, the most common thing is that in the same box you will find all the material you need except for fixing it to the base material of the facade. In any case, it is important to ensure that we have everything necessary before starting the installation.
The material we need is:
– Air conditioner
– Copper tube
– Neoprene tube
– Rubber tube
– PVC pipe (see diameter according to device)
– Plastic channel
In brick:
– Taco-Screw (see diameter according to device)
In concrete:
– Direct screws to concrete (see diameter according to device)
At SATE:
– ResiTHERM (see diameter according to depth of insulation)
– Polyurethane foam
The tools we need are:
– Electric drill
– Drill bits for concrete (see diameters according to device)
– Twisted tubes
– Pipe cutter
– Mouthwasher
– Metal detector
– Hammer
– Chisel
– Vacuum pump
Where to install the indoor air conditioning unit
When starting to install the indoor air conditioner, it is important that you choose the location carefully, making sure that the wall is clear and suitable to support the weight of the unit. Avoid direct exposure to the sun and any heat source that may cause problems such as gas leaks or oil or sulphide fumes.
Be sure to leave at least 30 cm of free space around the air conditioner at the top and sides. Also, install the unit at a minimum height of 2.15m above ground level for optimal performance.
Avoid placing the air conditioner near antennas, electrical cables, security systems, intercoms, Wi-Fi or telephones, as these devices can interfere with its operation. Keep a minimum distance of 1 meter between them to avoid problems.
Before drilling the wall for installation, check with a metal detector that there are no pipes or cables that could be damaged.
If you have doubts about the strength of the wall, consider building a wooden or metal frame to provide additional support for the air conditioner. It is important to ensure a safe and stable installation to avoid future problems.
Step-by-step installation of the indoor air conditioning unit
The installation of the device is simpler than it might seem at first. Follow this step-by-step to get rid of doubts and ensure a safe and durable installation:
1. Install the support plate on the wall:
- Place the fixture bracket on the wall and make sure to level it horizontally and vertically. Mark the attachment points with a pencil.
- Drilling the holes with the drill and a concrete bit the same diameter as the dowels and screws you will use to hold the bracket. Insert the expansion studs with the help of a hammer and then screw the screws to secure the plate to the wall.
2. Prepare the wiring:
- Make a hole in the wall through which the connecting pipes can pass to the outside.
- Mark a circle about 65 mm in diameter next to the installed bracket.
- Drilling the hole with a long bit that allows it to go through the wall, making sure it slopes slightly downwards from the inside to the outside to facilitate drainage of condensation.
- Finish the hole with a hammer and chisel. Insert a PVC pipe of the same thickness as the wall and the diameter of the hole to hold and route the pipes and electrical wires to the outside.
- Run the electrical cable and the cooling and drainage pipes through the PVC pipe.
3. Place the cooling equipment:
- Hang the indoor air conditioner on the stand you have prepared, making sure it is securely fastened by the hooks on the stand plate.
Where to install the outdoor air conditioning unit
When looking for the optimal location for the outdoor air conditioner, it is crucial to avoid areas with high circulation, dust or excessive heat. Make sure there is at least 30cm of free space all around to allow for adequate air flow. This distance helps the efficient operation of the system and prevents obstructions.
Also, select an area that is not exposed to direct heat sources to maintain energy efficiency. Carefully consider these factors to ensure optimal and long-lasting performance from your air conditioning unit.
How to install the outdoor unit on the facade
The outdoor air conditioning unit is the last step to complete our installation. Follow this step by step to finish your installation easily and quickly:
1. Installation of the gutter on the facade:
- Place a channel to hide the cables and pipes in the facade.
2. Preparation of the copper tubes:
- Widen the ends of the tubes with a flare to connect them to the outer condenser.
3. Creation of the siphon in the suction tube:
- Use a tube bender to siphon the suction tube and prevent liquid from returning to the compressor.
4. Lined joints with insulating hose:
- Protect the pipe joints with an insulating hose to withstand the weather.
5. Introduction of cables and pipes in the channel:
- Fit the electrical cable and tubes into the gutter and close the lid.
6. Fix the device to the facade
- Depending on the base material of the facade, we will choose one of the anchors listed in “required materials” to fix the support and the device to the facade, at a lower height than the interior device.

7. Removal of air from the tubes:
- Remove air from copper pipes to ensure no gas leaks. This process is done using a small vacuum pump.
8. Connecting the pipes to the outdoor unit:
- Screw the nuts onto the pipe joints on the outdoor unit, tightening with spanners.
